Sy Yuk-tsan, Richard, is the managing director of COTCO Holdings Ltd. Under Mr Sy's leadership, COTCO emerged rapidly and became a leading provider of High Brightness Light Emitting Diodes (HB LED) which are widely used in video screens, displays, automotive lighting, traffic signals and specialty lighting, etc. Based in Hong Kong, COTCO adopts the most advanced semi-conductor packaging technology to produce a full range of LEDs. Its plants in Huizhou, China, have been accredited with ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO/TS16949 certificates.
Since Mr Sy joined COTCO in 2003, the company's sales revenue has doubled over the past three years. Under Mr Sy's leadership, COTCO launched a patented product "DoradoTM which was granted with the '2005 Hong Kong Awards for Industries' Technological Achievement Certificates of Merit". COTCO is also the only Hong Kong company licensed to manufacture white LEDs using patented technology.
Mr Sy believes in success through team spirit. He is determined to build an innovative and versatile engineering team that is able to cater to the specific needs of customers. His R&D team thrives to develop new applications for LED components. Mr Sy also partners with local universities to foster new generation in optoelectronics industry.
Mr Sy is dedicated to environmental protection. Currently, he works hard to advocate the adoption of solid state lighting for general illumination, which is a non-toxic energy-saving lighting source that contributes to environmental conservation. Mr Sy also practises green manufacturing in his production lines; a de-ionised water recycling system has been deployed in COTCO's wave-soldering production line to prevent pollution.
Mr Sy spends tremendous efforts to promote the LED industry by participating in various local and international events and seminars, serving as speaker or committee member. He is the mentor of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation's mentorship programme to share his experience and knowledge with fellow members. He is now the chairman of the Hong Kong Optoelectronics Association (Solid State Lighting Section).
