Professor Y.C. Richard Wong, SBS, JP

Yue-Chim Richard Wong is Professor of Economics and Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost at the University of Hong Kong. He was Founding Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics. 

He is a leading figure in advancing economic research on policy issues in Hong Kong through his work as founding Director of the Hong Kong Centre for Economic Research, Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation Study Centre, and the Hong Kong Institute of Economics and Business Strategy.

His main research interest is in the applications of economic analysis to public policy. His recent publications include The Fifth Dragon: Emergence of the Pearl River Delta (co-author, Addison Wesley 1995), Port Facilities and Container Handling Services (co-author, City U Press and Commercial Press 1997), On Privatizing Public Housing (City U Press and Commercial Press 1998), Made in PRD – The changing Face of HK Manufacturers (co-author, Federation of Hong Kong Industries, 2003) , Retaking Economic Center Stage (2007), and Made in PRD: Challenges & Opportunities for HK Industry (2007).

He had served on numerous public bodies including the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Exchange Fund Advisory Committee, University Grants Committee, Land and Building Advisory Committee, Economic and Employment Council, the Commission on Strategic Development - Committee on Economic Development and Economic Cooperation with the Mainland, Hospital Authority, and Housing Authority, etc.

He was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in 1999 by the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region for his contributions in education, housing, industry and technology development and was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 2000.
